Comparison of Ancient Greek Art to Modern Art
 


Goddesses
The Goddesses in this picture have no heads.  This is because in Ancient Greece, artists sculpted each piece in sections.  They would sculpt the heads and arms separate from the rest of the sculpture.  Then, they would attach the limbs with metal rods that allowed them to shift with a little movement.  After many years, the separate sections fell off.
 
 
 
 

Above is a Modern Sculpture called Goddess.  Note the difference between the
Ancient Greek sculptures of the Goddesses and the Modern sculpture called Goddess.
The Modern sculpture is very abstract and really has no resemblance to an actual Goddess.
