BIRTHPLACE
Elie Wiesel was born in the village of
Sighet, Transylvania, which at that time, was owned by both Romania and
Hungary. On this map it is located on the border between Hungary
and Romania near the city of Arad. The town is within 300 miles of the
coast of the Meditterreanean Sea. Its location is in Central Europe
and its proximity to Germany resulted in its quick take over.
