Guy de Maupassant was born in Normandy, France on August 5, 1850.

Normandy
Normandy is located in northern France along the English Channel. Northwest of Paris. It is between Picardy, on the east, and Brittany, on the west. Many things were happening in France towards the later part of the 1840s. France was having a large struggle of the classes. Karl Marx was a huge politcal leader and was trying to gain control of france. Maupassant was born here but did not spend all of his life here. The majority of his life was spent in Normandy.
