Florence, Italy

The Renaissance began in Florence, a thriving city-state in northern Italy.  From the middle of the fourteenth century until the early sixteenth century, Florence was a dynamic and creative center of art and learning.  Most of the prominent artists of the day were either born in Florence or did their best work there: Among others, the architect Brunelleschi, the painter Masaccio, and the sculptor Donatello created workd of  lasting importance that would become hallmarks of the early Renaissance.

Because Florence enjoyed a higher elevation and greater distance from valley marshes than other river cities, it was plagued by malaria and the swamp diseases that devastated cities such as Pisa.  People bragged about their city, Florence, because it was such a beautiful city and they had many resources from the river nearby and ways to get to other cities.

Florence, Italy is now one of the most interesting city to visit.  It has so much culture and history linked to the city.  Florence was the birth of art and learning which people around the world are and have been learning about.  Florence, Italy is a great place to visit where you can see where the world of art began.
