 Dante Aligieri was born on May 29, 1265 in Florence, Italy. He was the son of Alighieri di Bellincione d'Alighiero and Bella Alighiero, who was his father's second wife. Dante was an only child. Dante's dad was an moneylender (loan officer in today's world) and his mother was an house wife. In Dante's early life while living with his parents he stayed in Florence due to the fact that his dad was also an aristocrat. Florence is known for its beautiful scenery, its art and the famous statue of David by Michelangelo. Dante’s first studies were mainly in rhetoric, grammar, philosophy, literature and theology. He was a disciple of Brunetto Latin, who strongly influenced Dante’s cultural growth. In his youth, he was a Stilnovo poet and had many friends among the other members of the Stilnovo Poetical School. After the death of Bice di Folco Portinari Dante began studying philosophy and theology in depth, also attending some sort of cultural associations in Florence which provided lessons mainly about Aristotle and St. Thomas. dante also attended Franciscan school in Florence; studied rhetoric at University of Bologna, 1287; studied in Padua, Paris, and probably Oxford. Apprenticed to writer, scholar, and statesman Brunetto Latin. while dante was living he also joined the military for political reason. he joined the Florentine army. he fought during battle of Campaldino against Arezzo and Pisa, 1289. Throughout his life dante did many things. they were  Italian poet and politician. he also Served on People's Council of the Commune of Florence and Council for Election of the Priors of the City, both 1295, and he served as Council to the Captain of the People, 1295-96, Council of the Hundred, 1296. dante was also elected to one of six positions as Prior of Florentine guilds, 1300. then condemned to death in absentia as a result of conquest of White Guelph faction and banished from Florence for remainder of life. dante ; married Gemma Donati, in 1285 and fathered three children: Pietro, Jacopo, Antonia Beatrice. dante was of the catholic religion and was part of the Guild of Doctors and Pharmacists. he was also elected to the People's Council of the Commune of Florence and Council for Election of the Priors of the City, both 1295, and he served as Council to the Captain of the People, 1295-96, Council of the Hundred, 1296. dante was also elected to one of six positions as Prior of Florentine guilds, 1300. most people did not have an opinion on dante because most things we know about him came from his writings. mostly over his lifetime he wrote the books that we read now and was a lover. dante died on september 13 or 14, 1321.
