the one who keeps them and feeds them. But she had no hard feelings towards their mothers because she was just t glad to spend time with them and raise them, providing the loving and nourishing environment, with the help of her brother, that their mother couldn't provide from being to caught up in drugs.
Cruising through the ghetto city streets of Fort Lauderdale, music system blasting to the crunk song "Knuck If You Buck" she dialed her boyfriends' house number. Planning to meet up with him earlier than planned, she called to make sure he was at home. She'd been going out with Keith for almost three months, and to her amazement she had developed strong feelings for him.
"Hello?" answered the voice on the other end of the phone. Lakia was sure it was another female.
"Hello?!" Lakia asked, more than replied wondering who it was that was at her man's house. "Who is this?!" not able to hold her temper in anymore.
Not one to like females with attitudes, the girl on the other end was surely not about to back down. With a definite attitude she spat, "Don't worry about who it--." Speeding to Keith's house after dropping her niece and nephew off and telling her brother where she was going, she was only a few blocks away. Mad, and with temper escalating, she sped in his driveway with a screeching stop, and jumped out the car. Sprinting up to his front door, she banged, knocked, yelled, and kicked. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity some girl came to the door.
She was dark-skinned, short and thick with red-streaked hair, cut into a bob. Her chinky eyes had a sneaky glow about them, ash she stood with a smirk on her face asking, "Does Keith know you're
dropping by? Because I know for a fact that he didn't invite you." Sneering she blocked the doorway obviously trying to prevent Lakia from coming in.
Ready to fight if she had to, she took her name hoop earring, pocketed then and pushed the girl out of the way. Walking into Keith's room, he was just putting his boxers on. Feeling hurt, but mad, she didn't know what to do. Mentally she was OK, but emotionally she was hurt. She didn't want to hear an explanation or anything. She couldn't believe Keith had the nerve to cheat on her after all the reassurances, and everything! Keith, looking into Lakia's eyes tried to decipher the meaning of her blank stare, tried to say something but doesn't get the chance to.
The girl from the front door, Tina, was bow also in the doorway. "Keith, can you hand me my bra so I can go? I got something to --." However, KeKe interrupted her once again by a vicious blow to the face. Tina turned ready to strike but KeKe was already showering her with more punches. Backing her into the hall, KeKe continued to slap and punch her in the face. Keith, in an attempt to end the fight, stood up and grabbed KeKe, temporarily stopping her from the attack on Tina's face.
During the brief intermission, they were able to see blood oozing from her nose mixed with the silent stream of tears flowing down her face.
"Dat's what's up! That'll teach you to try an trip on me! Disrespect me again, and that's another one comin' your way!" exclaimed Lakia. Showing her true colors, Lakia continued to yell at Tina.
Thinking that the fight was over, Keith let her go. Tina then rushed KeKe hitting her in the face. With her jaw aching from pain, KeKe zoned out into this mind frame where she had no feeling. Feeling no pain, no hurt, or supmathy, she blocked, ducked, and threw punches. Attempting to knock Tina on conscious, she pulled her to the floor. Getting on top of her, she continually struck Tina in the face constantly and harder with every blow.
When Keith finally managed to get in a position to pull her up, the struggle was over. Realizing that she had got Tina's blood on her shirt, she wanted to fight her again but quickly realized it was no point. Tina, was unconscious. Zoning back in, a twisted smile spread over her face and she swhipsered in a raspy like voice, "You wanted to hurt me didn't you? Well guess what. You did. But I'll bounce back, and you're a part of my past now so forget you and that girl too!" Feeling satisfied, she swiftly walked out the house, leaving Keith to handle the unconscious body of his female friend.
A week had passed since the day Lakia and Keith broke up. Although Lakia told Keith that he was part of her past, her heart told her otherwise. No matter how many times she tried to tell herself that she was over Keith, deep down she knew she wasn't. Everyday she would take Lea and Mike to the community park so she could watch Keith play basketball.
When Keith played basketball, he played with a vengeance. His caramel coated skin, glistening with beads of sweat trickling down his sexy muscular body. Built with a six pack, every girl was checking for him. The fact was, Keith was well-respected. He got his hustle on, keeping customers happy, and
