Sitting in the kitchen of her grandma's first floor apartment, Lakia sat and waited for her niece and nephew to finish eating. The whole apartment smelled of soul food. Lakia had helped her grandma cook fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and mustard greens. She let her grandma cook the chitterlings because they had a distinct smell and origin that made her real nauseous. Since her grandma cooked the chitterlings, Lakia baked the pound cake, as well as the red velvet cake, AND she made a big bowl of banana pudding.
For Lakia this was a routine thing. Every two or three days, Lakia would visit her grandma and cook a big meal for herself, her niece, nephew, as well as her older brother. No doubt, she always left her grandmother some.
Calling her boyfriend Keith, she confirmed their rendezvous for later on that night. Happy to see that their plans was still on, she told her niece Lea, and nephew Mike to get ready.
"We about to go now auntie KeKe?!" asked Lea, all excited.
Putting all the food in containers and bags, Lakia replied, "Yea, we're about to go. Help me take these bags to the car." Shuffling their way to the car, Lakia was hoping like crazy that she didn't get stopped for any reason. She didn't have her license yet, let alone a permit but she could drive better than most people.
Lakia was only 15 years old, but she looked 17. She was light-skinned which her friends called "Yellow". With a slim frame, average curves and long black hair, people often mistook her for the mother of Mike and Lea instead of their aunt. She'd often think
