Summer Opportunities

CDC Disease Detective Camp
Offered twice during the summer of 2009: Session 1: June 22-26 and Session 2: July 13-17. Both sessions will offer the same activities and will last from 8:45AM-4:30PM. There is no cost associated with attending the camp, but each camper must be at least 16 years old and is responsible for bringing or buying his/her lunch. Short-Term Educational Program for Underrepresented Persons (STEP-UP)
The STEP-UP Program is designed to provide short-term research education for high school and/or undergraduate students from racial and ethnic minority or disadvantaged backgrounds to expose them to research within the mission area of NIDDK. The Program provides support for eight to ten consecutive weeks of full-time basic or clinical research education and training during the summer provided by experienced faculty currently active in research related to the mission of NIDDK. NC Project SEED
SEED is a cost-free, statewide, year-round science enrichment program lasting June 14 – July 31, 2009. NC Project SEED is accepting applications from qualified 10th and 11th grade disadvantaged students. To qualify for an interview, students should meet the following criteria:
1. Have a 3.0 weighted GPA.
2. Must have completed or be currently enrolled in Chemistry.
3. Be in good standing at their high school.
4. Be a legal resident of North Carolina .
5. Be a current 10 th or 11 th grader.
6. Complete an application by January 16, 2009.

Rex VolunTEEN Program

The Rex VolunTEEN Program allows high school students to volunteer at different areas within Rex Hospital. The Program is open for volunteering after-school, as well as during the summer. The 2009 summer program will last from June 15-August 21. Applications are due by March 2nd 2009. For more information, visit:
