International Baccalaureate - Education for Life

The International Baccalaureate organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Aims of the IB Programme

• Provide rigorous and broad-based curricula and assessments
• Maintain high academic standards common to schools worldwide
• Allow students to develop individual talents and responsibility for their own inquiry-based learning
• Foster critical and compassionate thinkers
• Open the window between the classroom and the outside world
• Foster a lifelong interest in learning as well as becoming an informed and responsible citizen
• Promote international understanding and a respect for the variety of cultures
• Facilitate university entrance around the world

Prospective IB Student

If you are planning on signing up for the IB Programme, you will need a Declaration of Intent to Prepare for International Baccalaureate Studies and an intent letter (igned and dated). The IB Coordinator will be accepting Intent Letters until August 15, 2008. The intent letter needs to be in the office no later than August 15, so that Ms. Hoffman can make sure your are in the correct classes.

Registration and Four-Year Plans

Registration for courses for each year takes place in February or March of the previous year. All freshmen who are thinking about pursuing the IB Diploma should see the IB coordinator during the fall semester of their freshman year to design a four-year-plan of courses in preparation for the IB exams during junior and senior years. The IB 4 year option(s) are available online. Prospective students should also look at the Path to IB Exams.

Rising Juniors

There is a meeting for rising Juniors and parents either April 28th or April 30 at 6:00pm in the Enloe Media Center. You will need to sign the Declaration to Pursue the IB Diploma contract.
