Enloe Theatre Awards

Please Congratulate Laura Levine, Will Sarratt, Logan Sutton, and Dana Marcus. They received Superior rating as the recent NC state Thespian Festival on their monologue presentations. There were only 11 Superiors in the whole state and Enloe received four.

Also wish Logan Sutton(our regional winner) well as he performs a monologue and sonnet at the National Shakespeare Contest at Lincoln Center in NYC this coming Monday.

Enloe won all three places in the statewide playwriting contest.

Mandelbrot Team Play Math Contest

Alex Vasilyev, Shreyas Tikare, Daniel Vitek and Calvin Deng has won 5th place in the nation in Mandelbrot Team Play Math Contest.

Math League Competition

Enloe has won 2nd place in the nation in the Math League competition. Nick Tobey came in 3rd place overall and Ivan Kuznetsov came in 10th place overall.

Italian High School Contest

Congratulations to the students of Italian III who participated in the Italian High School Contest. In category level 3A, Laura Buff won fourth place and Andrew Heil won fifth place. In cadagory level 3B, Rebecca Coria won second place and Priscilla Tutu won fifth place. Please congratulate these students when you see them!

DNA Day Essay Contest

Congradulations to Jennifer Li for winning second place for her essay in the 4th Annual DNA Day Essay Contest. Jennifer adeptly displayed her understanding of how certain environmental factors can influence human health and disease by describing the surprising complexity of phenylketoneuria (or PKU).

Students' Academic and Arts Honors

State Math Meet Winners

Calvin Deng, Ligon 8th grader who takes AP Calculus AB here at Enloe, took 1st place at the State Math Meet with a nearly perfect score, missing only one question. Daniel Vitek took 3rd overall and was the highest scoring senior. He has been offered the $100,000 scholarship to Duke for a 4-year tuition ride. Daniel and Calvin received an automatic invitation to join the North Carolina ARML teams that will compete nationally at University of GA over Memorial Day weekend. Honorable mention awards were given to the following students for placing in the top 40:

Student Emmy Award

( Raleigh ) The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented its 7 th Annual Regional Student Television Awards for Excellence and Enloe High School Eagle Productions is among the winners.

Enloe senior Taylor C. Leslie won the writing category for a series of commercial spoofs called “Real Teachers of Genius.”

Beta Kappa Writing Awards

The students of Enloe High School have once again won high honors in the annual Writing Contest sponsored by the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Wake County! The awards will be presented at a banquet April 28.

  • First Place goes to the the essay "I Hate Humanity: The Introverting Effects of World Travel Based on Narrative Voice in Heart of Darkness and Gulliver's Travels" by Tom Bauso's student Indu Ramesh.
  • Second Place goes to the essay “Fractured Marriages in The Scarlet Letter and Hedda Gabler" by Priscilla Chappell's student Arlie Honeycutt.

Engineering Club

Enloe Engineering Club competed from April 22-24 in the Technology Student Association State Competition. TSA is a National organization that offers competitive events in engineering and technology. Eclub represented Enloe very well as they finished 2nd in the state as a team. These individuals and teams from Enloe placed in the state:

Model United Nations

The Enloe Model United Nations club went to a conference over the weekend, and Will Stelpflug and Woody Barlow brought home an honorable mention award for their delegation as Vietnam.

Reflections

Lauren Brooks has been selected as a finalist for the WCPSS New Teacher of the Year Award.

Physics Team

Daniel Vitek has made it to the Semi-Final round to be on the US International Physics Team.

Brain Game

Congratulations to Arjun Bhattacharya, Anand Kornepati, Chris Lyerly and Ivan Kuznetsov for their success in Brain Game! The team performed so well that they skipped directly to the semi-finals! On April 11, the Brian Game semi-finals will take place.

AMC 10/12

Congratulations to Kimberly Yao, Yash Mehta and Lisa Zheng for qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). They join the 10 students who previously qualified on February 10th with their high scores on the AMC 10/12 A round. Lisa missed only one question on the AMC 10B to qualify with a score of 144 out of 150 possible. Sophomores Kimberly and Yash qualified based on their scores on the AMC 12B - the version given to juniors and seniors. In addition, Calvin Deng, an 8th grade student from Ligon who takes AP Calculus AB here at Enloe, also qualified for the AIME. He achieved a perfect score on the AMC 10A.

NC DECA Career Development Conference Results

Our DECA Quiz Bowl team placed 6 th overall in the preliminary round and was knocked out in the finals. Virginia Dresser, Michael Crawford, Samantha Ingram & Arthur Vernooij were recognized with a medallion for placing in the top 8 teams. Virginia Dresser also received a medallion for having a top 10 test score in the preliminary round.

Enloe Basketball

The members of our men's basketball team are the Sectional Champions, Cap -7 Turnament Champion and were tied with Millbrook for the Regular Season Championship. Coach Tommy Moore was also selected the Cap 7 Coach of the Year.

Our Women's Basketball program also did very well this year. Congrats to those girls and the coaching staff. They finished 3rd in the regular season and 2nd in the Conference. Tournament and played in the NCHSAA play-offs.

Model United Nations

Enloe's MUN team participated in the Duke University Model United Nations Conference during the weekend of February 19-22. The following students received an honorable mention for their delegations:

Regional Shakespeare Contest

Please congratulate Logan Sutton who won the regional Shakespeare contest. He will go to NYC at the end of April to compete in the national event at Lincoln Center.

FBLA Regional Competition

On Saturday, January 17th, five members of Future Business Leaders of America competed in the Triangle East Region Competitive Events at Princeton High School. All of the students represented themselves and our school very well. Four of the five students placed in their events and will advance to compete in FBLA's State Leadership Conference in April.

Todd Fuller Math Competition at NCSU

Daniel Vitek took 1st place at the Todd Fuller Math Competition at NCSU which took place on October 18th! Enloe's team took 2nd place overall. Team members were Daniel, Ashwin Srikrishna, Alex Vasilyev, Kim Lorello, Matt Cotter, John Cuffney and Neil Bhathela.

2008 WCPSS All-County Choral Festival

The following Enloe students participated in the 2008 WCPSS All-County Choral Festival last week: Tara Smith, Katie Komorek, Lea Preston, Alli Seal, Rebecca Miller, Brooke Driver, Ali Fontana, Alex Tobey and Marc Denning.

North Carolina Student Laureate

Three members of Enloe's Class of 2008 were recently recognized for their poetry:
Katherine Indermaur was awarded first place and the title of North Carolina Student Laureate for her poem, "Downtown After Dark", in the first annual state-wide Student Poetry Contest. The contest was founded by North Carolina's current Poet Laureate, Kathryn Stripling Byer, and is sponsored by the North Carolina English Teachers Association. All three award winners were from Enloe, as Anuja Acharya took second place for her poem, "Death by Chocolate", and Sarah Bruce received Honorable Mention for her poem, "yellow".
As noted in the article on the poet laureate's website, http://ncpoetlaureate.blogspot.com/ , Kathryn Stripling Byer and Sarah Bruce were students of Priscilla Chappell's and Anuja Acharya was a student of Joyce Nelson at Enloe and all spoke of how much Ms. Chappell and Mrs. Nelson had opened up the world of poetry to them.

Duke Math Meet

Congratulations to Nick Tobey for taking fourth place overall at the Duke Math Meet Saturday, November 29th. Green team took 12th place overall and Gold team took 13th place.

Brain Game

Aired on October 25th, Enloe's Brain Game team faced Greensboro Grimsley and NCSSM, winning with 710 points. Enloe's team qualified for the semi-final round, which will be held on December 6.

NC All-State Orchestra

6 students were selected for the All-State Honors Orchestra:  Nick Johnson, Julie Ma, Angela Ning, Kirsten Raley, Wesley Shang, and Katie Womble.  Congrats to Ms. Mac and to the students. 

NC HS Honors Chorus

Eight students from Enloe were chosen for the 2008 NC HS Honors Chorus. Anna Grace FitzGerald ranks 2nd in the state for Soprano 1. Mara Howard-Williams ranks 3rd in the state for Soprano 1. Laura Buff ranks 3rd in the state for Alto 1. Andrew Way ranks first in the state with a perfect score for Bass 1. Abby Bogardus, Travis Whaley, Daniel Cryer, and James Marlowe auditioned and were chosen to participate and perform with the chorus. Dr. Jerry Blackstone from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor is the guest conductor.

Brain Game

Today was the first Brain Game contest for this fall, and Enloe was extremely successful. We won a very tough contest facing Greensboro Grimsley and NCSSM. Our team not only won, but scored a total of 710 points, which was the leader among all 9 teams that played today. This qualifies the team for the semi-final round on 12/6, and the show will be aired on 10/25.
