France
was the center of intellectualism in Europe during the Enlightenment. One
of the ways that this 16th & 17th century movement expressed itself
was through the field of philosophy. Men (and women !) embraced philosophy
and discussion as part of a new wave of logical thought and reasoning.
Artists,
nobility, theorists, and writers gathered at lavish soirees and teas called
Salons to argue, ponder, and
pontificate.
You
will emulate one of the world's greatest
Philosophers
in a Salon that we will host together!
To
prepare for this, you have chosen a philosopher and may use the following
sites to do research on your character. Find information on their life
and background, their beliefs and school of thought.
You
will use this information to complete your worksheet and prepare for the
Salon discussion.
