BIENVENIDOS A MTV REAL WORLD As producer and possible housemate of the MTV reality show, REAL WORLD, it is your job to find a new location in a Spanish speaking country to hold the next season. You have a tough, but fun and exciting job ahead of you. You and another classmate will work together as producers. In class, your group will be assigned a particular city in a Spanish speaking country and then it is YOUR job to research and investigate that city to see if it is suitable for the next REAL WORLD season. The following is a list of the activities that you must research and complete in order to fulfill the basic requirements of the project. The final project will be a marketing portfolio of your given city as well as a 5 minute presentation to the class marketing the reasons why YOUR city should be the next location for the REAL WORLD. TRANSPORTATION AND FOOD: MTV will pay for all transportation to and from the prospective city, food and a car. HOUSEMATES: You need to choose a maximum of two (2) people to live in the house with you. A paragraph (5 sent minimum in Spanish) describing why you have chosen each of the 2 people must be included in the portfolio. In total there will be 2 people living in the house: you, your partner, and 2 guests. 20 points HOUSING: You need to find the cost of at least a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house/apartment/condo/townhouse/time share in your city. You can find this information by consulting the websites provided for your city. Be sure that in your packet you include the cost of the house in dollars. You should include a picture of the exterior of the house. A small paragraph in Spanish should be included that describes the details of the house, cost and location (i.e. street name, close to the beach, close to downtown) 15 points FLOOR PLANS: Once you find a house, you need to design the interior of the house. Remember it needs to be at least 3 bed/3 bath. Include various recreation rooms as well such as a room for billiards, the pool, a sauna, whirlpool, etc…BE CREATIVE. This is your dream house…make it fun and exotic! The rooms in the house should be labeled in Spanish and should be fully furnished. The furniture should also be labeled. You can either draw the furniture or cut out magazine pictures. The floor plan should be done on a posterboard. 25 points (vocabulario) LIST OF CHORES: Now that you have found a house, you and your house guests must take care of it. You need to include a list of chores for each person for every day of the week for at least one month (4 weeks). You can assign the chores as you wish. BE CREATIVE! You must include the chore plan in your portfolio…EN ESPANOL! 20 points (tener que) JOB: Besides doing chores, you need to find something to occupy your time. Watching TV and playing video games does not count as a job!;) Your next assignment is to find a job that you and your housemates can do on a daily basis, at least Monday-Friday. Again you can find this information on the websites given. You need to find how much the job pays and convert it to dollars. You will also need to include a description of what the job entails written in Spanish. If possible, you should also figure out HOW to get to the job and how long it will take. 15 points ACTIVITIES!: Now that you have some extra spending money, you can start to find things to do on the weekend. You need to include a list of 5-10 activities to do in and around your city. You need to include the price of admission. For example, going to the movies costs 30 pesos per person. You need to include the name and location where the activity is taking place. 10 points (ir a, present tense) OUTINGS:You also need to include at least 2 outings (1-3 day trip). If the outing is more than 5 hours away, you should fly to your destination. If that is the case, make sure you include the price of the plane ticket as well as the admission to the place. For example, if your city is Mexico City and you want to go to the Mayan Ruins in Quintana Roo, you need to include the price of the plane ticket, plus the cost of the admission to the ruins. Included with the cost, you also need to include an itinerary (in Spanish) as to how you will spend your days. 25 points **It would be creative to make admission tickets and include the stubs
for the places you go i.e, the ruins, airplane tickets, etc. PAPER COMPONENT. You need to write a two page paper describing the reasons why your city should be chosen for the next MTV REAL WORLD season. This should be a short summary of all the research that you have found. It should be at least 2 pages, typed, double spaced, 12 in, Times New Roman font. 30 points ORAL PRESENTATION: You will then have 5 minutes in class to market your city to the rest of the class.
