They cannot read or write, because 50% of the child population has no access to education. 35 million children between the ages of 6 and 14 in India are out of school, and every third working child in the world is in India. 53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years are illiterate. In nearly 60% of schools, there are less than two teachers to teach grades 1 through 5. By joining this club, you are taking the first step to help get rid of child illiteracy in India. Pratham Enloe is recognized as a chapter of Pratham USA, an organization that raises money to build schools in India. Pratham Enloe is also the first of high school funded chapter of Pratham in the United States. In our club, we will raise money to support this cause, through national fundraisers, multi-state conventions, and public demonstrations. Club Officers
