Japanese Club

Meetings: Thursdays from 2:30pm to 4:30pm in Rm 0611

Konnichiwa!

Every Thursday down on the first floor of the new building, you're going to hear something strange. It's the sound of Japanese students (lots of them!) standing up, bowing, and chanting the traditional greeting that marks the beginning of this week's Japanese club meeting.

Knowing the size of Japanese club, that's no modest feat.

Drawing an annual first meeting of sixty to seventy people, Japanese club (Jclub for short) is proud to be Enloe's largest Foreign Language/Culture Club. Over the years it has responded to its rapid growth by maximizing the interactivity of the activities involved, and expanding club bureaucracy to include not one, but two presidents to help organize and facilitate the countless activities Jclub does on a yearly basis.

Activities that are popular with members are numerous and varied. Calligraphy, Origami, DDR Day, Field Day, and Food Days, and Seasonal Festivals all encourage group the group to participate in activities that entertain while educating. Information sessions on popular topics like Traditional dress, Pop Music, Modern Fashion, Geisha, Samurai, Sumo, Flower Arranging, Bonzai, and many more are also common. We make sushi, have Godzilla marathons, and sample media (Videos, Comics, CDs) about Japan or in Japanese. Occasionally, the club members make a venture at a local Japanese restaurant or visit the Japan Center at North Carolina State University.

In the past the club has also participated in open house, orientation for new students, and the school's International Festivals where members enjoy sharing their knowledge about a language and culture frequently shrouded in mystery.

Japanese club is always growing, and new members are always welcome. Reporting to any meeting and paying the required $5.00 dues per semester is all it takes to become a part of this fantastic cultural resource.
