Enloe High School Orchestras

Enloe High School has the largest high school orchestra program in the Wake County Public School System with 154 string students. Currently, we offer four orchestras in which to participate. Below is a brief description of each:

Orchestra I (Concert Orchestra): This orchestra is designed to continue the study of the fundamentals of music and technique. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Previous playing experience needed. No audition required.

Orchestra II (String Ensemble ): This orchestra will expand the technical proficiency of the members through the best in string orchestra literature. More advanced studies of intonation, shifting, and musicianship will be offered. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Entrance by audition only.

Orchestra III (Chamber Orchestra): This orchestra is for students with a high level of technical proficiency. The emphasis of this group is on the performance of chamber music. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Entrance by audition only.

Orchestra IV (Symphony Orchestra): This orchestra is open to students with a very high level of technical proficiency. The emphasis will be on the performance of the best of full orchestra literature. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Entrance by audition only. Symphony winds will be selected by audition in the fall and must be fully enrolled members of the Enloe High School Band.

All Instruments
1. Play the required scales listed below.
Slur 4 per bow. No arpeggios.
2. Play a two-minute solo of your choice. No orchestra or quartet parts, or pop music.
3. Sight-read.

Required Scales
Violin: G & B-flat major, 3 octaves, 4 notes per bow.
Viola & Cello: C & D major, 3 octaves, 4 notes
per bow.
Bass: E & G major, 2 octaves, 4 notes per bow.

 We invite you to our performances at Enloe on October 24, December 19, amd May 29 in the Enloe West Auditorium. The concerts start at 7:00 p.m.
Admission is free.
